Abilene Public Library launches Beanstack, offers reading challenges

The Abilene Public Library recently introduced Beanstack, an interactive online platform designed to make reading even more engaging for the community.

Whether you’re tracking personal reading goals, participating in library challenges, or encouraging young readers, Beanstack makes it easier than ever to log books and earn rewards, especially as the libraries look toward using the service for their Summer Reading program.

Library users can sign up for free by visiting https://abilenetxlib.beanstack.org or by downloading the Beanstack app on their mobile devices. Once registered, readers of all ages can explore a variety of challenges — including the popular 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program—completely online.

If you need help getting started, the library has a comprehensive how-to guide available on the website at www.abilenetx.gov/apl/Beanstack. There, you will find all you need to know to make use of Beanstack, whether you prefer using the app or the service on a PC.

The service is intended to make reading more interactive and accessible to all ages in the community. With Beanstack, tracking your progress, earning badges, and joining community reading events has never been easier.

The Abilene Public Library encourages everyone to explore Beanstack and start logging their reading today. For more details, visit abilenetxlib.beanstack.org or stop by any library location for assistance.

Reading Challenges Available

The Abilene Public Library is using the new Beanstack platform to bring the community reading challenges all year long. Whether you’re looking to build early literacy skills, discover award-winning books, or set personal reading goals, Beanstack makes tracking your progress easy and rewarding.

Current reading challenges to join:

  • 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge – An early literacy challenge for young children to read 1,000 books before they start school. Earn badges for every 10 books read and when you reach 1,000 you can earn a certificate and bracelet of completion.
  • Texas Bluebonnet Award Challenge – Kids can read from the Texas Bluebonnet Award list for the current school year and discover amazing books recommended for young readers.
  • 25 in 25 Challenge – Open to teens and adults (kids, too), this challenge encourages you to read 25 books in 2025 and explore a variety of genres and authors.
  • Read Across America: March 2025 – Open to all ages to encourage the love of reading in recognition of a celebration created by the National Education Association.

As we get closer to summer, the library will be adding three more exciting challenges as part of their Summer Reading Challenge for kids, teens, and adults — where you can read, complete activities, and win summer prizes.
