Advance with rhythm

By Jack Walker

After the Dallas Cowboys’ thrilling win against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Nov. 24, it’s impossible to make any definitive conclusions about the 2024 NFL season. The game featured two kickoff returns for touchdowns, two missed extra points, and a blocked point that all led to a stunning second-half comeback by Dallas. With a backup quarterback, they managed to overcome the second place team in the division on the road, improving their record to 4-7. Amazingly, despite the odds, the Cowboys still have a legitimate shot at securing a wildcard playoff spot and, potentially, a Super Bowl victory — just as predicted by me, Jack Walker, back in September in the West Texas Tribune when I forecasted a 7-8 or 8-7 finish for this underdog team. (You can see that prediction online in the September 2024 issue of the West Texas Tribune.)

As the holiday season brings its magic, let’s be clear: the unpredictability of this season is as real as the ups and downs faced by America’s Team. The Christmas Miracle is alive and well, just as my retrograde prediction continues to fuel the belief that small-town writers can make it to the mainstream. Here in the friendly frontier, where football, faith, and community are central to life, this is the greatest show on earth. And it only gets better as long as we keep believing.
