A memorable Christmas
By Ezekiel Newby/Young Scholar
One of my many memorable Christmases was when I was only 5 years old, and we had just moved to Abilene in November 2017. The very next month, Christmas came!

Although we had nothing in our house because everything we owned was still being shipped all the way from Germany, we made the best of it. We had many people bring used Christmas decorations and even helped with cooking food so that we could still be as festive as possible.
Also, my grandparents came over to celebrate with us, and we all ate some favorite dishes like ham, Christmas potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and rolls…and don’t forget the desserts.
Even though we just moved, we kept some of the holiday traditions, such as baking Christmas coffee cake and putting boots by the door to be filled with goodies on Dec. 6, which is Saint Nicholas Day.
That Christmas is also when we started a new tradition of getting one Christmas village house every year. We have continued that tradition since then so much so that now our Christmas village covers an entire table! Last year we even found The Grace Museum replica, and this year we got an Aldi model to add.
Christmas 2017 was such a fun and new experience and will always be one of my most memorable Christmases.
