Stars Over Abilene Quilt Show, June 5-6, to feature 200 quilts, benefit local charities

This “American Heritage” quilt will be given away during a charity raffle at the 32nd annual Stars Over Abilene Quilt Show, hosted by the Abilene Quilters Guild.

The Abilene Quilters Guild will host its 32nd annual Stars Over Abilene Quilt Show at the Abilene Convention Center, at 1100 N. 6th St. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 5 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6.

The show, themed “Let Freedom Ring,” commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Tickets cost $8 for adults ($12 for two-day passes), and children under age 12 will be admitted at no charge.

The exhibition features about 200 quilts created throughout the Big Country region. There will be door prizes, demonstrations, 20 vendors, Viewer’s Choice Awards, and Quilts of Valor presentations.

Attendees on the first day of the show will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite quilts.

Each year, the guild creates a quilt for a local charity to be displayed and raffled at the show. This year, ticket sales from the “American Heritage” quilt will benefit Big Country Family Services Health & Human Services. The quilt was pieced and quilted by Stephanie Patterson.

Decorated baskets filled with prizes will also be raffled to benefit New Beginnings. Raffle tickets ($1 each or six for $5) can be requested by contacting the guild via email at [email protected].

The Abilene Quilters Guild was formed in September 1981 with 20 charter members. The group now has more than 70 active members. For more information, visit the guild’s website at www.abilenequiltersguild.net.
