Why you might not be welcome at my table
By Lydia M. Long
Like many, I’ve voted, complained, and occasionally called a representative, but pretty much just watched one administration after another come and go. Until. Trump’s second term.

When Trump was elected, I said, WTH!? How could people vote for a convicted felon who was responsible for Jan 6th, slams law enforcement, and insults the military?! I “had” friends/family who voted for him. When he won, I was appalled but honestly, figured, well, how bad can it be? Congress will keep him in line. Then I watched as he appointed and Congress confirmed one unqualified appointee after another. It was like watching the Cavanaugh confirmation hearing over and over. At least Brett has a law degree.
If at this point, you still support Trump, I guess you aren’t the person I thought you were. I thought you were a moral, caring person. A nice person. Apparently not, since you believe that everyone of color should be deported for their visa expiring. You think bombing Iran, and starting a war in the Middle East during peace talks, then pouting because NATO doesn’t come to our side is good for the nation (paying higher gas prices is patriotic!). You think bombing a girls’ school, imprisoning children and taking away medical care from millions of people is OK.
And, the SAVE act? What a crock, the very man who won two out of three elections claims election fraud. Hmm, so he didn’t win? What lengths this man has gone to in order to distract from the evidence the Epstein files include against him is amazing.
Other countries don’t blink when they open the files and find their people’s names, they immediately investigate. They will probably bring charges against Trump before we do. After all the DOJ has become Trump’s Department of Retribution, so don’t expect any legitimate investigate from that department.
Instead of listing the appalling executive orders, actions and everything else he has done over the past year and a half, I’ll fast forward. But, currently the administration is creating lists under the guise of “protection” lists of Jews (protect them against discrimination), and who you voted for (SAVE Act) , etc.
What has happened to the very people who were against government over reach?
If you think at this point, I’m not fed up with hearing, “I don’t want to talk about politics,” don’t plan on sitting at my table. Because if you don’t find many of the policies and executive orders of this administration reprehensible, you aren’t welcome.
Stop justifying your silence by claiming, “I don’t discuss politics.” Politics be damned; it’s moral and ethical issues now.
You are literally the problem with politics.
