The Record: Tomorrow’s headline

By Floyd Miller/Publisher

Many things have happened in this world since the last edition of the West Texas Tribune. Most of the headline grabbers are not good. And if you found yourself addressing them you or someone you know probably asked the question: What is the world coming to?

There are at least two worlds, one of them being the big world, the universe which covers everything. The other world is the one we live in Abilene, Texas. The headlines coming out of Abilene were good mostly. I will list a few.

• Abilene community unites to clean historic power plant (historic WTU power plant) I sure like that word unite. Reported on Big Country Homepage.
• New sports complex opens in Abilene Recreational Outdoor Complex (ROC) Sounds like a quality-of-life issue with an economic driver, to me. Reported on Big Country Home Page.
• Open AI shows off Stargate AI data Center in Texas and Plans 5 more elsewhere with Oracle, Softbank (They are talking about Abilene Texas, the largest facility of its type in the world.) Reported by the Associated Press.
• Wildcats’ purrs as ACU’s student experience recognized in national rankings This was the seventh consecutive year in the 2026 U.S. News & Report rankings. Reported in the Abilene Reporter News.
• Longtime Heff’s Burger employee inspires with 13-year dedication This is a story about Franklin Williams, who missed one day of work in 13 years because the bus didn’t run because of ice. A story of dedication and perseverance. West Texas Tribune.

Each of us gets the opportunity to write the headline for our community by our actions. As a newspaper, we would like to be writing about graduations, church events, local heroes, the challenges we face and the victories we celebrate together.

As a newspaper, we write about the good and not-so-good issues in our community. Just remember each of us determines tomorrow’s headlines by our actions.
If you have tomorrow’s headline or know a local hero, give us a call at 325-829-5585 or email us at [email protected].

West Texas Tribune printer moves

The company that has been printing our paper the last few years has moved their operation to Mexico. We have found a printer; however, they can not provide as much color as we need. We are in search of a solution that is economically feasible. One thing for sure, the cost is going up. You can support your non-profit newspaper by donating or buying an ad.
