Why we celebrate Independence Day

Independence Day means freedom. The 13 American colonies were ruled by the British leaders, so they had to do what the British leaders told them to do.

The 13 American colonies could not go by their own rules. On, July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the congress. America was finally free from the British laws and was able to make new laws with the American government.

Independence Day is now a national holiday. Many people celebrate with cookouts, fireworks and parades.

Even though it’s a day of fun, it’s very important.
