Brass and Classy
There are still frontiers in our world. Mr. Raymond Monroe explored one many years ago when he became the first black supervisor in a now gone cafeteria in the K Mart Mall. November 15th, he joined with Mrs. Louise McGotten and Cassandra Monroe to create Brass and Classy as the first black owned store in that same mall. Brass and Classy features the “lily d” designs of Mrs. Louise McGlotten. This is clothing personalized to the customer and all is custom fit. They do custom design clothing for all ages and genders. They also do alterations such as the new stripes for the promotion of SFC Brown, Commander of the Armed Forces Recruiting Station next door. They also were tailoring his dress blues for an annual training conference in Irving, TX last weekend. {{more}} Mrs. McGlotten started her fashion line in Atlanta working from her home. Like many others, she left that successful business to return home to care for her mother. She started Brass and Classy in her home here in June, 2010. The business grew and she asked Mr. Raymond Monroe to help grow the business farther. He admitted that he had never done anything like this but his marketing degree from Cal State and his belief in the quality of the “lily d” line made him willing to sponsor the move from a home business to a store front. Now he feels that he is “getting great” at the business. Their goal is to be successful in their current store and expand the “lily d” line to other clothing stores and also to have more Brass and Classy stores in cities such as Dallas and Atlanta. They offer custom prom and event dresses from $75.00 to $500.00 and their wedding dresses are $250.00 and up. She said that she has never made a man’s tuxedo but is willing to create one if a customer wants a unique custom fit tux. They are located in the mall with K Mart next to the Armed Forces Recruiting center. Designer Louise McGlotten. Photo by Joe Starkey SFC Rockerick. Photo by Joe Starkey
